Our Approach

The concept of Sterile Insect Release (SIR) on T. leucotreta is a scientifically-based process, requiring the release of sterile insects at a certain minimum ratio of FCM sterile adults compared to the wild FCM population.

DELTA TRAP

For effective control of wild FCM, an overflooding ratio of 10 sterile adults to one wild adult (10:1) per trap is recomended. The adult female emits a pheromone in order to attract males for mating. The higher the amount of sterile adults in relation to the wild population, the less likely a wild male and female will find each other for a successful mating.

RELEASE VEHICLES

The release of sterile FCM is executed over contracted areas from September to June. Releases take place with R22 helicopters and per hand.

MONITORING

XSIT has a team of skilled monitoring personnel who monitor this ratio on a weekly basis.
